Thanks to the roughly 150 people who stopped by our booth yesterday at the Business Expo! We had great conversations with a lot of people about the community brand. Here is how some of you said that Elk River is Powered by Nature:
- Solar and recycling
- By the river
- The library has recycled materials all over the place!
- Bike Trails
- Solar powered recycling cans
- Powered by golf!
- Methane gas generator
- Parks and people
We were also talking about our new website and how the Powered by Nature theme was used as a foundation for the site. Can you find some ways that the new website is Powered by Nature?
Did you know that your webpage’s placement in search engines is effected by the number of links that direct to your site? The ranking of the site linking to your site also effects the placement on search engines. One of the best ways to boost your placement on search engines, and ultimately your traffic and conversions, is to have high-profile sites link to your site.
This blog has been working to get other sites to link to it, and we have succeeded a number of times to the point where we are happy to say that we are now the first result when searching for “Powered by Nature” on Google.
We want to help all Elk River businesses share this success! Utilize the community brand on your website in some way, and then contact us and show us what you did. We will write a post linking to your site, and help you move to the top of the Google search list!
Have you been to the city’s website recently? We have done a major overhaul! We want to point out a couple of features that you may enjoy.
- Elk River Listens – we will be posting issues from the community here and giving you a chance to respond. City staff will be available to answer questions and make comments on your posts.
- Notify Me – sign up for alerts to your email or mobile phone. You can select what topics you would like to be notified about and we will only send you information pertinent to those topics!
- Parks – visit to see a list of all 45 parks in Elk River. Listings have pictures and maps!

Recently the city’s Parks Department released plans to build a new destination park at the current Orono Park. The Park, themed after the city’s Powered by Nature brand, will include a number of attractions including slides, a tree-house, teeter totter, and more!
We are excited to see not only a new fantastic park, but further use of the brand through the community. Not just the appearance of the logo, but incorporating the meaning of the brand. The goal of the community is to provide a connection to the nature of the people and the outdoors. This project will provide a community space for people to gather near one of the best landscapes in the area. This park is truly powering the community through nature!
Elk River, Minn. – As part of the city’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Elk River residents, businesses and visitors, the city will conduct a number of tests on the outdoor warning siren system the week of March 11. The testing is to ensure full functionality as we prepare to enter the tornado season.
A full test of the system, in which all sites will sound, is scheduled for 1 p.m., Friday, March 15. Technicians will perform enhancements and upgrades to the system throughout the week resulting in intermittent site activations as each site is upgraded and tested.
In the event that severe weather is forecasted that would potentially warrant a real activation, testing of the system will be limited and/or postponed.
Recently the City of Elk River conducted a test of a wayside horn system. The results were staggering and demonstrated that the geographic impact of the wayside horns would be significantly less than the current train horns.
